The Masterplan
This is amazing. A training program that only contains things I totally love to do.
Pole fitness or Muay Thai boxing?
Let’s try it. One of my mottos is that you can only judge about things if you’ve experienced it by yourself. And the best part is yet to come. As a student the membership of the gym is cheap and the intensive support really surprises me. Besides that, they offer a broad range of group lessons that differ from basketball to twerking (no questions, just watch YouTube). Another nice thing is that there are a lot of international students, so the lessons are in English.
Differences between gyms
From my 14th till my 19th I’ve been speed skating on a professional level. My parents live close to a gym so a couple of years ago I went there really often. Though I had my own training program I’ve never had any guidance there. This is a huge contrast to this gym. For every member they develop a personal training program that especially fits your needs and is monitored by a digital system. The reason for this, is that this age group (students) is vulnerable for injuries due to a lack of knowledge and experience. There also isn’t a mirror in the training area because they want to avoid the rooster-effect.
Training program
My fitness program of the next six weeks contains exercises that focuses on my lower back and, uhh… arm muscles *ouch*. It’s a circuit training of approximately one hour but I think I’m going to slow down it a little bit in the beginning. I’m not very into using weights and I want to make sure that I use the right technique. And I’m going to do it my way anyway, so if I like to do something else than *** the scheme.
I’m free!
The group lessons are a welcome alternation after years of running, power training, cycling, shorttrack and skating, where the movements are quite static. Now I’m free! I can do anything I want! My curiosity results in the desire to try almost every sport on the schedule, except from football, basketball, dodgeball, handball and ‘bounce hockey” (also known as tamponhockey). I know these kinds of sports will hurt my ankles and knees anyway and I don’t want to risk that. Then all the effort will be worthless and I can start all over again with the recovery. So yes I have to watch out that I’m not going to be too enthusiastic. Basically the plan is that I don’t have a plan, beside having fun. Which is so nice.
