Ambition
I’m done with it. The undersigned used to be a speedskater but was forced to quit
because of chronicle injuries on the knees and ankles. Now I also have a lot of
problems with food digestion. Doctors can’t find a reason nor a solution for both
issues. It has struck me down for a couple of years and now it’s enough. I truly begin
to miss the training, the challenge and most important, the speed. Silently I even
miss the pain in my muscles after a good workout. A speed junkie like me is not
going to acquiesce in this. My aim is to recover and do the things I love to do again.
Without pain. This is the plan:
1. Beat the pain in my belly
Find out what strucks me down and fight it or learn to live with it.
2. Recovery of my joints
Challenge my knees and ankles step by step and treat them with love.
3. Train the upper body
Since speedskating created an imposing booty I want to bring my body in balance by
challenging my chicken wings i.e. arm muscles.
4. Travel more
And combine the things I love, such as photography, writing, sporting, language learning, architecture, art and of course food.
5. Do it my way
Never. let. anyone. overtake. my. life. again.
I’m willing to make a huge endeavour to achieve this.
So I signed up for a triathlon.
The 24th of October.
On Lanzarote.
Alone.
But of course I’m not alone. A lot of people are struggling with the same vague
disease. I really, really don’t like it to call it like that, it sounds way too pathetic for an
optimistic and hard-working hedonist like me. But since I suffered a lot and fainted at a
professional occasion due to an allergic reaction on the food, I’m not going to ignore
or deny it anymore. I’m going to share the recipes of the things I cook, show my
version of the FODMAP diet, take you with me in the process of the training for the OceanLava triathlon and probably some other stuff that crosses my road. For sure there will also be some
blood, sweat and tears but as always I will fight back with positivity and courage. I
hope my journey will inspire you to find your way as well. An old African proverb is
the reason I’ve started this blog.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go further, go together.”
Are you in?
